Welcome to the ALHS Class of 1967 website.

Council Bluffs is located in southwest Iowa at the crossroads of Interstates 80 and 29. Nestled between the Missouri River and the Loess Hills, it is just across the river from Omaha, Nebraska.
In 1967 Abraham Lincoln High School was one of two public high schools in the city. Our class had almost 370 graduates and was the last class to graduate from the "old" A.L. located at the corner of 5th Avenue and Bluff Street.
On September 14 and 15, 2007, we celebrated our 40th reunion at Pizza King and Riverside Grille. Approximately 80 of us gathered to share memories and catch up on current news.
If you are a classmate and would like a copy of the class roster (addresses, phone #s, emails), please email me at skdasmith@earthlink.net and I will send it to you.
I do have some reunion photos that I would be happy to email to you.
Recently I heard from Norm Colyer, who wonders whatever happened to the old cannon and cannonballs after the fire at the old A.L (then Kirn Jr. High)? ANSWER TO THE QUESTION..... ACCORDING TO INFO OUT OF THE DAILY NONPAREIL, GLEN KELLEY OF COUNCIL BLUFFS BOUGHT IT AND HAD IT RESTORED SO IT COULD BE USED
IN REENACTMENTS FOR THE CIVIL WAR. I GUESS IT IS THE ONLY ORIGINAL CANNON THAT IS LEFT FROM THE WAR THAT STILL WORKS.
My cousin Gary Drake, A.L. class of '57, sent me this information. Fred Maher, assistant principal at A.L. verified it. According to Fred, Mr. Kelley sometimes brings the cannon to an AL/TJ football game. Mostly he takes it to Civil War reenactments. |
